The Future of Fabric is More Sustainable

Mar 25, 2025 | News

Environmental plastic waste statistics can be staggering, and print media fabric customers are sounding the horns: the future is green. Or… in this case… BLUE. Deko-Blue 7058RCO6GFS, is a 6.4 oz. digitally printable polyester fabric derived from upcycled plastic pulled from oceans, rivers, and estuaries. These SEAQUAL® yarns don’t just give positive purpose to perilous plastics, they’re also the building block for high-performance, brilliantly printable substrates for soft signage, banners, and retail displays.

Engineered in Germany through our partnership with Georg+Otto Friedrich (G+O), Deko-Blue’s composition is 62% SEAQUAL® Polyester and 38% Polyester. It’s a global best-seller for good reason, and is compatible with UV and latex inks, as well as direct and transfer printing with dye sublimation inks.

Green and Transparent
The SEAQUAL® initiative strives for more than just lip service to sustainability, it works to minimize the fibers’ environmental impact by ensuring transparency, traceability, and efficiency from start to finish in the production chain. Plastic marine litter recovered in Tunisia, Egypt, Vietnam, Mexico, and Brazil are upcycled to SEAQUAL® yarns at factories in Spain and Mexico. Less transportation distance means a more sustainable product.

Sustainable Production
G+O weaves sustainability into the core of their business. Their top corporate values reflect a greener focus, launching their “GOING GREEN” initiative in 2018 and stating on their website:

“We create solutions with a high degree of customer benefit for a common future. Sustainable customer relationships are important to us, therefore everything we do – and how we do – is leading to a perfect product and service quality. We want to fulfill your wishes and exceeding your requirements.”

The company’s commitments cover facets from purchasing to production to products to energy management to recycling.

Printability on Display
In addition to its green characteristics, Deko-Blue delivers vibrant color reproduction and sharp detail on a matte, bright white surface. It’s tear-resistant, wrinkle-resistant, and easy-handling. Deko-Blue is flame retardant (FR) certified and meets NFPA 701 & B1 flame resistance standards.
