Issue
When an image distorts on a finished print, it often looks as though the image has been stretched.
Why Does Printed Image Distortion Occur?
- Tension of fabric and transfer paper is not set correctly on the heat press or calender.
Quick Printed Image Distortion Fixes
- Ensure tension is not too tight on stretch fabrics.
Note: This issue can be common with stretch fabrics.
- Run a tension test.
Print a circle and transfer the image to fabric through a heat press/calender. If the circle is oblong or egg-shaped, the tension is too high and needs adjustment.
- Ensure that transfer paper is not slipping on the fabric while running through the heat press/calender.
Consider using tack paper. If fabric does not stretch, add tension to fabric and transfer paper on the heat press/calender.
WHEN IN DOUBT, RUN A TENSION TEST BY PRINTING A CIRCLE AND RUNNING IT THROUGH THE HEAT PRESS/CALENDER.
