Battle of the Synthetics: The Difference Between Nylon and Polyester
Nylon and polyester are very similar synthetic materials, but there are some key differences between them.
Nylon is inherently stronger per weight than polyester and, in general, more durable. Nylon is easier to dye than polyester, because polyester requires more heat and pressure in the dyeing process.
Polyester has more natural UV resistance and natural colorfastness to light properties.
Fun Fact: High pressure/high heat jigger dyeing equipment for industrial use polyesters is not common in finishing plants in the US. Finding a domestic finisher who can dye these heavier polyester fabrics takes some effort.
Remember, when trying to decide between nylon or polyester, always consider the end-use. TVF has many resources to help make your decision.
