What is the ASTM E84?
The American Society of Testing and Materials E84 (ASTM E84) measures the flame spread and smoke index, which are considered the surface burning characteristics of a material. Depending on a variety of factors, materials can have classifications of Class A, B, or C.
How is the ASTM E84 test conducted?
The ASTM E84 test is conducted in a fire tunnel using a 24 ft. (7.32 m) long by 20 in. (508 mm) wide sample of the material. The ignition source is seven seconds in duration, total test is 10 minutes. The flame front cannot exceed 24 in. during the test. Results are relayed as Flame Spread Index, and Smoke Developed Value.
TVF carries options that meet the ASTM E85 threshold.
